HODGE HOCKEY FOUR PILLARS DEVELOPMENT CAMPFour Days. Four Pillars. One Complete Player.
The Four Pillars Development Camp is built around the core foundations every serious hockey player must master: skating, puck skills, shooting, and game application.Each day is structured with a specific focus, allowing players to dive deep into one pillar at a time while building toward complete on-ice performance.
DAY 1 – POWER SKATING
Building the engine.
Players focus on stride efficiency, balance, explosiveness, and skating mechanics that translate directly into game speed.
Focus Areas:
Stride mechanics & efficiency
Edge control & balance
Transitions & crossovers
Acceleration & explosiveness
Skating with puck at speed
This day establishes the foundation for everything that follows.
DAY 2 – PUCK SKILLS
Control under pressure.
Players work on puck possession, deception, and body positioning in tight spaces.
Focus Areas:
Tight-space handling
Wall escapes
Puck protection & body positioning
Passing deception & timing
Small-area compete games
This pillar develops confidence and control in game-like situations.
DAY 3 – SHOOTING
Scoring habits.
Players focus on mechanics and repetition designed to improve release speed, shot accuracy, and in-stride scoring ability.
Focus Areas:
Release mechanics
Catch-and-shoot reps
Net-front scoring habits
Shooting in stride
Rush attack scoring
High-repetition shooting combined with game-situation reads.
DAY 4 – GAME APPLICATION
Where skill meets structure.
Players apply the first three pillars into competitive scenarios and structured play.
Focus Areas:
Zone entries & exits
Below-the-dots play
Decision making under pressure
Compete structure
Controlled scrimmage with coaching feedback
This day reinforces how individual skills fit within team concepts.
*BANTAM CHECKING STATION*
(For players entering Bantam & older)
A specialized instructional station focused on safe, effective contact and body positioning.
Focus Areas:
Angling
Safe contact delivery
Wall play
Body positioning
Receiving contact
Players learn proper habits and confidence entering contact-level hockey.
